American Eagle Gold Coins
Congress authorized the production of American Eagle Gold Coins coin in 1986, and it has since been the official “gold bullion coin” of the USA. Investors can buy into the American Eagle Bullion Program and conveniently purchase precious metals. The Gold Eagle’s content, weight, and purity are guaranteed by the government. They are not directly sold to the public; however, you can get them from authorized purchasers. By investing in American Eagle Gold coins, you get to add small amounts of gold into your investment portfolio. You also enjoy the flexibility of converting small portions of your portfolio into cash whenever you need to. If you have 100 coins, for example, you can conveniently sell just a few of them to cover expenses; you don’t need to sell all of your gold investments. Fractional weights You can get American Gold Eagle coins in four types based on fractional weights, each carrying a different “legal tender face value” or denomination. • 1 ounce = $50.00 in face value • 1/2 ounce = $25.00 in face value • 1/4 ounce = $10.00 in face value • 1/10 ounce = $5.00 in face value All of these four types are on offer as bullion versions. “Proof” coins at first only came in the one-ounce size. By 1987, the 0.5 ounce size was introduced. By 1988, 1/4 and 1/10 ounce sizes were also offered. Uncirculated versions (collectible) were offered from 2006 to 2008. Composition and sizing Gold Eagle coins have 22 karat fineness, comprised of 3% silver, 5.33% copper, and 91.67% gold. The 1-ounce coin, of course, contains an ounce of gold, has a diameter of 1.287 inches, and weighs 1.0909 ounces. The half-ounce coin has a diameter of1.063 inches in diameter and weighs 0.5455 ounces; it has 0.5000 ounces of gold. The ¼ ounce coin has a diameter of 0.866 inches and weighs 0.2727 ounces; it has 0.2500 ounces of gold. Finally, the 1/10 ounce coin has a diameter of 0.650 inches, a weight of 0.1091 ounces, and 0.100 ounces of gold.
